FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is barre?
In its most basic sense, barre exercise is a low-impact, total body workout that combines elements of ballet, yoga, and Pilates. Class will start with a warm up, then move on to a low-weight, high-rep weight series. From there, you’ll do various exercises at the barre before moving to the floor for some Pilates-inspired movements. Class finishes with a much-deserved, relaxing stretch. We know it’s important to make exercise fun, so our Local Leaders provide these carefully planned classes with pumpin’ tunes and a positive attitude.
What should I wear?
Great question! We recommend wearing athletic/yoga wear, but those grippy socks are mandatory! If you don’t have a pair, we have them for purchase or rent at the studio.
When should I arrive?
If it’s your first class, we recommend arriving about 15 minutes early so we can show you around, make sure you’re comfortable, and answer any questions you may have. Otherwise, please aim to arrive about 10 minutes before class.
Do I need to bring anything?
Just your beautiful self, a water bottle, and grippy socks! Forget your water? Don’t have socks? No sweat! We have both available for purchase at the studio.
Is there a space where I can lock up my belongings?
Absolutely! We have custom secure lockers big enough to fit your gym bag, purse, coat, and any other belongings you wish to keep safe.
I'm heading straight to work after class. Do you have showers?
We've got you covered! Local Barre Fitness is equipped with a shower stall and free towels for your convenience.
But I’ve never been to a ballet, yoga, or Pilates class before. Is this okay?
Feel like you have two left feet? It’s all good! Absolutely no experience in ballet, yoga, or Pilates is necessary. Barre is a low-impact workout and accessible to those with various skill levels.
I’ve got a bun in the oven. Can I still come?
You bet! Just be sure to let your leader know before class so that she can make any necessary modifications. You must also bring a doctor’s note that clears you for exercise.
What if I have an injury?
If you have any injuries, please let your leader know before class. We also require a doctor’s note that clears you for exercise.
